Certain personal information is requested in order to maintain a level of safety within the PhotoSesh community and to properly process 1099 independent contractors (or T4A contractors in Canada). For SSN# or SIN# (US or Canada) we used to only require the last 4 digits but now it is required to provide the entire number. Our goal is to on-board photographers to our platform most efficiently using background checks and to keep compliance with issuing year-end 1099s (or T4As) to qualified earners. We also require certain personal information in order to compensate photographers via direct deposit.
UPDATE: Jan 11, 2023 There are some recent updates with the iOS app that we were forced to implement due to changes with our payment processor Braintree (a PayPal company).
Due to recent changes in IRS reporting requirements, it is now required to include a full 9 digit SSN to be eligible for direct deposit payments from the PhotoSesh platform. Our payment processor, Braintree, used to only require the last 4 digits of the SSN. So now with their new policy, any transaction is blocked until the full tax ID is submitted to them. In order to allow our network of photographers to comply with these new requirements, we have recently updated our iOS app to enable full submission of your Tax ID securely to Braintree. Please do not send your Tax ID to us or anyone over email.
